The State of AI and Your Marketing
AI has grown tremendously and has become a huge part of our lives. It’s been a while since I blogged on this topic and I felt like there’s a need to update on it. When I first wrote about this, AI was a topic that seemed to explode overnight. In early 2023, people started to talk about AI in everyday conversations. It became a worry discussion that robots started taking over more functionings in our lives, leading people to think automation would replace their jobs. It became a scary situation that seemed right out of a Sci-Fi movie. However, AI is not really new- it just became very advanced. Its bringing up a lot of questions of the role it has in our business and personal lives.
Let’s do a quick history lesson. The term “artificial intelligence” was coined in the 1950’s. Yup, thats right. Of course these were just the super early stages and it didn’t have advanced functionings. However, AI was something that continued to grow in the latter part of the 20th century. But in March of 2023 something big happened-OpenAI released GPT-4 which expanded the capability of ChatGPT. This brought about the surge is AI creating complex texts and images.
It wasn’t until this year where it came even more common. We use this tool to quickly search information and help formulate our thoughts. It’s a tool that has been used for professional and social uses. While AI has been beneficial, it’s posing big issues. For example, academic institutions are taking action and creating policies to prevent plagiarism with students using AI for assignments. It’s making us questions what is real and what’s not.
This can pose a lot of questions of its place with our marketing. While we can use it to help strengthen our marketing efforts, it’s important to keep our originality in our brand. It’s imperative to building all of our marketing materials on AI. We want to strive to build content that is our own. These are helpful tools but we have to avoid it taking over all marketing efforts in our business.
AI remains a hugely opened question. While, we cannot truly predict what the future of AI looks like, thought leaders can give us a better feel of projections. AI is getting smarter and has elevated functionings. It’s taken over many human functions even companionship which can be dangerous if we aren’t mindful of the risks.
While we can’t control the growth of this, we can maintain our critical thinking skills. We can view AI as a beneficial tool, not a replacement of our brains. AI can help, but we also have to add our human touch. Use it as a helpful technology, not a replacement of our original thoughts. Let’s stay mindful and keep an eye on the progression of it.
